The Ultimate Guide to Kitchen Remodeling!

So you want to remodel your kitchen and you don’t know where to begin. Well, your in the right place.

My name is Heather and before I was a web designer in spokane,wa, I professionally designed kitchens for over 5 years with big companies like HuntWoodZiggy’s and The Ugly Duck. I designed and helped remodel kitchens from as little as $1,800 to as high as $35,000. It was a career I enjoyed very much.

I learned very quickly the steps that needed to be taken when remodeling a kitchen and I would like to share that knowledge with you.

1. Figure Your Budget
Do you have $2000, $10,000 or $20,000 to work with? When you design a kitchen you have to figure in cabinets, moldings, hardware, counter top, back-splash, flooring, possibly wallpaper or paint and the cost of a general contractor.

2. Write Down Your Needs and Wants
Start surfing the internet for various kitchen styles. Create a folder and fill it with magazine clippings, printed internet photos and articles that relate to what you want. Bring this folder with you when start searching for a kitchen designer.

3. Educate Yourself
Know the difference from plywood bottoms and particle board bottoms, dovetail drawers and staples drawers, standard drawer guides and full extenstion, side mount glides vs bottom mount glides, solid wood cabinets and wood veneers. The more educated you are when searching for cabinets, the easier it will be to make a decision on the kitchen of your dreams.

2. Be Prepared for the Uunexpected
You never know when remodeling a kitchen if it’s going to go smoothly or if you could run into big problems.

7. Find a Local Contractor in your City
If you don’t plan on installing the kitchen cabinets yourself, than you may want to hire a local contractor to remodel your kitchen.  I happen to know a general contractor who has done a few custom remodels for me himself *wink*

4. Measure your Kitchen Space
Your contractor will measure your entire kitchen space and provide you with measurements to take with you when looking for a kitchen designer. Sometimes you may want your contractor to do this for you and he will gladly take over the project and provide you with the kitchen of your dreams.

5. Find Kitchen Cabinet Dealers
Ask friends, search the internet and ask your contractor. Most people would think to go to Home Depot or Lowes for a kitchen. But a lot of people don’t know that you can usually get better deals for nicer cabinets from local custom cabinet builders.

6. Get a Minimum of 3 Quotes
Different designers will design your kitchen differently and give you different ideas on what you could do with your space. Not only this, you may find nicer cabinets for less if you took the time to shop around. Just make sure to get an apples to apples quote on the exact kitchen design that you decide on.

When you are ready for your kitchen remodel, here are a list of local spokane cabinet dealers and builders. I do not recommend on over the other. Make the decision for yourself.
